Vanessa Stone works with paper, scissors, and quiet contemplation. She intuitively and freely cuts by hand with scissors into specially painted fine tissue paper - shaping collages & paintings to convey the world as she sees and especially, feels it.  Her works tell stories of place, time and memory – a focus on the English landscape around her that started as a childhood in the chalky rolling fields of Wiltshire, and continued for many years living in the green and leafy Letchworth Garden City. She draws on the quiet rhythms of nature; ideas and observations of the landscape are drawn in her sketchbooks when she is working en plein air and it is from those intimate drawings; the collages are born. Process is important… the snipping, smoothing, brushing and cutting away deeply connects Vanessa to her ancestors that worked the land, sewed fine clothes and mended shoes. Her work calls us to be reassured and comforted by nature and to be uplifted by her bold and joyfully colourful works.
