Justin trained in South Africa in the mid-nineties (H.Dip Ceramic Design) at the East London Technical College (alumni include Roelof Uys of Leach Pottery) and the Port Elizabeth Technikon (now part of Nelson Mandela University). Relocating to London in 1998, he got sidetracked by a career in retail and the wine industry, but fortunately in 2017, was able to rekindle his love affair with clay. Continuing his training in the studio pottery tradition and philosophy, he uses the wheel as a starting point for his forms, He produces functional ware inspired by the urban landscape, architecture and industrial design - through colours, textures and shapes.
