Bronwen is an artist and potter, graduating from Plymouth College of Art and Design in 2013. After becoming very interested in ceramics, she took a short course to learn the basics and then over the last few years developed her own style. She hand throws all her pots and likes to decorate them with her own drawings. At first, she found that transferring pen and ink line drawings to pots using a ceramic decal was effective but later turned to hand-painting, preferring to draw directly onto the pot to allow each design expression to develop more naturally and individually.

Bronwen throws all her ceramics herself using stoneware clay. Pots are bisque fired in an electric kiln and then individually hand-painted before their final glaze firing in the kiln, a process with many variables which makes each one a slightly different piece.

Everything she makes is designed for daily use and each one is colourful, functional and unique. She also uses the slip-ware process to make multiple items in the same mould (Christmas baubles, for instance) and individually decorates them by hand using underglaze techniques. Bronwen makes a wide range of table and homeware, including large salad/fruit bowls, serving dishes, pasta and cereal bowls, jugs, mugs, vases and ceramic jewellery.

Bronwen says: ‘I like the natural view. I am always thinking up new designs and techniques for my pots. I am enjoying creating and experimenting with clay; throwing on the wheel and moulding, hand-painted alike.’

Bronwen works from her studio at home near Launceston and the pottery at Kigbeare Studios and Gallery which is on the edge of Dartmoor and is where she maintains an exhibition of pieces. Her stall is often set up at various arts & craft fairs around Cornwall and Devon. Bronwen is Deaf & communicates with British Sign Language (BSL).
