Vivienne has been working with clay since being a student at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen from 1976 – 1980. After a break from making to allow for jobs in a variety of Art Centres, Galleries and most recently (since 2000) Chesterfield College teaching ceramics and art and design theory, she now finds herself back with her hands in clay. She has now left teaching and is working as an artist full-time.
Vivienne lives most of the time in Chesterfield, Derbyshire although part of her time is spent on The Isle of Arran. This is where most of the inspiration comes from for her work. Since childhood, Vivienne has returned annually to the village of Kildonan, home to an amazing variety of sea life.
Speaking about her work. Vivienne says: “The fluid, streamlined shapes of creatures of the sea are a a gift for an artist and I have been drawn to seals and sea birds and their ever changing postures since walking along the beach on Arran as a child. This is my starting point and one that continues to fascinate me.”
