Heather Mathieson grew up in the North East of Scotland, surrounded by hills and heather. As a child, many rainy days were spent scribbling and sketching or playing with bits of clay in her mum’s pottery studio. Heather’s work is a combination of printmaking, ceramics and love of nature. Heather now lives on the beautiful east Kent coast with her husband, two children and dog, Bunsen.
Heather developed a knowledge of ceramics at a young age, through her mother, who is also a potter. Her fascination in the natural world grew, resulting in Heather going on to study Animal Ecology and working in the field of conservation. In recent years, she chose to return to clay and take up printmaking – focusing on linocut and screen-printing.
Her work is inspired by the natural world and day-to-day encounters with wildlife. Through this combination of ceramics and print she has created a range of simple, functional, stoneware ceramics.
Each piece is wheel-thrown, glazed with a food-safe, glossy glaze, and decorated with a decal of one of her prints.
