Maike Browning makes tactile, delicate jewellery, inspired by natural forms, textiles and her travels - from the hills of Scotland to the cities of India. Suggestions of intricate patterns of Indian textiles can be found in delicate wire structures and mirror like silver pieces. Maike adds sparks of colour to her work using a variety of precious stones, adding another element to catch the eye. Maike works intuitively with precious metals to create delicate forms which subtly draw attention to the body, hoping to create work which is not only beautiful to look at but also a pleasure to wear.
Maike graduated from ECA in 2010 and now works from her studio at Calgary bay, the Isle of Mull. Maike uses recycled silver and gold wherever possible and she now only uses precious stones which have been ethically mined and fairly traded.
