Originally a Highland Lass, Catorina MacKenzie is now living just outside Bristol. She discovered her passion for glass while studying at Edinburgh College of Art with the intention of pursuing a career in Silversmithing. Catorina was instantly drawn to the fluidity of the molten material, so blowing and molten casting became her preferred choice. Her glass training has taken her all over the UK, and over to the US. She spent 5 months studying at Alfred University in NY State, which she says was a fantastic experience.
After completing her degree she moved to the West Midlands and completed a two year Post-Grad Diploma. She spent this time really concentrating on her technical skills and fell in love with the processes surrounding carved glass. Catorina likes to play with the glass and the layering properties it encourages. By playing with layers of colour, pattern and surface carving she began to produce tactile pieces of glass.
