Mogwaii

Scottish textile designer Sarah Campbell set up Mogwaii design in 2003. Much of her childhood was spent on the isle of Lismore on the West Coast of Scotland and it was here that Sarah's enduring love of textiles evolved. "I have vivid memories of picking wool from the fences and bringing it home to wash, card and spin. Of rag rug making on an old cart wheel which had been converted in to a loom, and memories of my grandmother (a skilled Shetland knitter and lace maker) teaching me techniques passed down many generations. Textiles have always played an important role for women in my family. They provide an outlet for our creativity while also, importantly, providing for and nurturing those around us."

Inspiration comes primarily from the qualities of the fabrics themselves. "For as long as I remember I have been drawn to work with wool. It is a fabric with such diverse potential: it can be tough as wood or soft and lace like. The more I work with wool, the more I understand it's sculptural and colour potential. New ideas are constantly emerging as I work." Equally inspiring are the colours, light and flora of the Scottish countryside.

Prices range from: £14 - £115
