Helen Martino

Helen Martino's pots have evolved over the years through her passionate involvement with clay. She went to college to be a painter but as soon as her hands touched clay she was hooked. Now both areas are combined in her surfaces embellished with layers of colour and caligraphy.

The 'Woman in Dialogue' series show figures in communication with someone unseen, maybe even the viewer. Words are often distorted and disguised within the decoration, while in others surfaces are deliberately left empty.

There is a very feminine approach to her sculpture in the use of the clay, colour and form which makes these very intimate sculptures quietly powerful.

Helen lives, works and teaches in Cambridge. She exhibits nationally and in Europe.
