Alison Hullyer graduated in 1990 with a degree in Graphic Design and Printmaking from Northumbria University, and now lives in a village just outside Cambridge. She works full time as a professional freelance artist, illustrator and printmaker. She designs primarily for the greetings card and stationery industry and has recently started producing her own line of products such as her range of tea towels, as a way of being able to sell her designs in a more direct way.
She uses various techniques in her work including pen and ink, oils, watercolours and also combines hand-drawn images with digital technology. For her limited edition hand-pulled prints, she mostly uses a drypoint technique, either using perspex or cardboard plates and then adding watercolour.
Her recent inspiration comes from observing patterns in nature such as seed heads and the shapes of skeletal winter trees. She also includes stylised birds and animals in many of her designs.
